Laminated fabrics for multi-purpose vehicle upholsteries

Teemu Lahti, Head of Sales and Marketing, Tamlans Oy

At Tamlans, we modify and customise multi-purpose vehicles. Our customers include authorities, taxi entrepreneurs and van fleet operators. Intermedius has been supplying us with special fabrics for a decade.

When a commercial vehicle is brought from a car plant to Finland, it is not yet ready for its intended use.  Special taxi vehicles for paratransit use, for example, have the body of a van. In addition to windows and heat insulation necessary in Finland’s climate conditions, the vehicle needs to be equipped with a car-like interiors, i.e. walls and ceilings are upholstered.

The equipping of commercial vehicles sets a lot of requirements on upholstery materials and the special fabrics. We have therefore very strict criteria for Intermedius. Among other things, the fabrics must be extremely wear-resistant for end users such as in school transport vehicles. Intermedius’s special expertise includes production of laminated fabrics. They supply us with the pre-laminated plush fabric, which we have co-developed and, when needed, also laminate other fabrics and artificial leather for us.

Intermedius is familiar with our high quality requirements, thanks to which we have a good and well-functioning partnership. They have production in Tampere and a short distance is an advantage.

Our own mechanics form an important quality expert group, as they implement different shapes of fabric to the vehicle interiors. We develop in co-operation with Intermedius high-quality, visually appealing, and durable fabrics for the demanding needs of our customers.
